« COOCEC-KIVU participates in Opportunity International's 2024 Global Conference on Financing Education: ».

"The Future of EduFinance: Trends, Innovations and Opportunities" Arusha, Tanzania - October 8, 2024 – COOCEC-KIVU, a leading network of social and economic financial institutions, leading financial inclusion in rural South Kivu in DR Congo, is participating in Opportunity International's Global Conference on Financing Education 2024 - the only gathering of global financial institutions, impact investors, bilateral donors and researchers to explore how the private sector can help close the education financing gap and unlock the potential of the affordable non-state school sector. The conference brings together over 130 leading financial institutions and key players from around the world who are investing in schools and families for education in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Collectively, the participating organizations have provided nearly $1 billion in education loans, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable growth in the affordable education sector. COOCEC-KIVU for Gender and Access to Quality Education: The event focuses on investing in non-public schools, which are emerging as critical players in supporting overburdened government systems. With the growing unmet demand for education in LMICs, these affordable, non-state local schools are filling critical gaps where public education is unavailable or inadequate, ensuring access to learning in underserved areas. Atul Tandon, CEO of Opportunity International, emphasized the urgency of the situation: “Many of the economic and social problems we face can be solved by ensuring that every child has access to quality education. What we are seeing today is that there is a clear commitment and urgency to tackle this issue head on – even from the financial sector – and a strong will to make real change.” Over three days, participants engage in intensive discussions, learn, collaborate and explore the critical issues facing the community leaders who build and operate these schools and the financial institutions that lend them. Topics include challenges in accessing financial solutions, innovative financial approaches, trends in demand for education finance and ensuring equitable learning outcomes for students. Renowned experts such as Atul Tandon, CEO of Opportunity International, officials from the Tanzanian Ministry of Education, impact investors and CEOs of leading financial institutions in Africa, Asia and Latin America are participating in the discussions. Interactive breakout sessions allow participants to engage in open forums with peers from different continents, share best practices and generate innovative solutions to extend the impact of education financing to children who need it most.
